ITC2018 Conference Workshop

The monitoring and maintenance of pavement is important to ensure its structural integrity so that its quality and condition is at the required state for the safety and comfort of motorist. An automated measurement system has been developed at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, referred to as the Mobile Pavement Integrity Scanner (MPIS) for the use in quality control and assurance program of asphaltic and concrete pavement. The MPIS is based on the Leaky Surface Wave and Leaky Body Wave Resonance technique to evaluate the vertical variation of elastic modulus and compressive strength of asphaltic and concrete pavement systems from the crosssection of their measured profile. The information can then be used during the construction period of pavement to evaluate their near-surface materials properties. The MPIS equipment allows measurement to be performed in an automated remote control and the analysis completed at a short time interval for each location. In this workshop theory and also case studies of its applications will be given. Hands on sessions will then be organized for the participants to acquire data in the field using the system and the data processing for the purpose of presentation.

PROF. SUNG-HO JOH (Ph.D.) is a professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Plant Engineering at Chung-Ang University, Korea. He has been working on the seismic technique for more than 20 years. One of his accomplishments is the WinSASW, which the software dedicated to SASW test. His research development includes variety of seismic techniques such as Pavement and Concrete Integrity Scanner (PiScanner & MPIS), Hybrid Integration of Resistivity and Stiffness (HiRAS) and Short-Array Beam Forming (SBF) techniques for site investigation, pavement evaluation, compaction control, railroad track (ballast and concrete) and health monitoring of concrete structures. KHAIRUL ANUAR MOHD. NAYAN (M.Sc.) is co-director of VISI SGI Sdn. Bhd., a company that specialized in pavement, concrete, soil and pile testing. Formerly a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He has also worked in Public Works Department of Malaysia as a design and a research engineer involving in design and construction of bridges, foundations and latter in research on applications of engineering geophysics in geotechnical and pavement engineering. Currently he is involved in the applications of seismic parameters in design of foundation and pavement.
